About The Position

We are hiring a motivated and skilled Research Assistant III (full-time) to join UTHealth McGovern Medical School, Department of OBGYN – Fetal Intervention, focusing on maternal-fetal biology in Houston, TX 77030. In this role you will perform a variety of molecular and cellular biology experiments and contribute to ongoing studies involving both 2D and 3D cell culture systems. An ideal candidate will have completed clinical training in Obstetrics & Gynecology or Pediatrics and demonstrate a strong interest in fetal medicine and a desire to pursue an academic career. Proficiency in molecular biology is highly desirable, particularly in stem cell research and gene sequencing. Ultrasound knowledge is also preferred. Once you join us you won't want to leave. Position Summary: Under minimal direction of senior research staff, conducts and executes complex basic science/ translational experiments and research tasks and assists in the interpretation of the results. The Research Assistant III will perform a variety of molecular and cellular biology experiments and contribute to ongoing studies involving both 2D and 3D cell culture systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Two (2) years of related experience in a research or clinical lab environment.
  • May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in molecular biology: stem cell & gene sequencing, highly preferred.
  • Ultrasound experience, preferred.
  • Clinical training in OBGYN or Pediatrics, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standard molecular biology techniques, including ELISA, Western blotting, and nucleic acid (DNA/RNA) extraction.
  • Maintain, passage, and differentiate primary cell cultures and established cell lines.
  • Conduct 3D cell culture experiments, such as spheroid or organoid models.
  • Use fluorescence microscopy for imaging and data collection.
  • Assist with experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records.
  • Support general lab operations, including reagent preparation, ordering, and equipment maintenance.
  • Strong aseptic technique and good laboratory practices
  • Organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research team
  • Under minimal supervision, implements planned research experiments according to research protocol.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records which may include notebooks, records, databases, etc. as needed by the research project. May assist in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, papers, and grant proposals for presentation and publication.
  • Maintains clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Monitors laboratory and/or other supplies to ensure sufficient inventory to support research projects. Ensures quality of reagents or other supplies.
  • Stays abreast of new and updated procedures and protocols for research laboratory. Must complete required training. May participates in continuing education programs, seminars, and workshops.
  • May provide guidance and training for support staff to ensure efficient, timely and high-quality results.
  • May provide updates to Principal Investigator regarding research progress.
  • Makes independent decisions as required, which may impact research team or assigned project.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
