About The Position

The School of Public Health at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Research Assistant II with the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The Gibbs Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior Research Lab in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is seeking a research assistant. This full-time, in-person position will be responsible for supporting a variety of duties associated with several clinical research studies of physical activity and cardiovascular health in pregnant women, postpartum women, and children.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences or a related discipline
  • A minimum of one (1) year of clinical research experience
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple research tasks on schedule and with high quality
  • Ability to conduct interviews and in-person assessments of research subjects (including pregnant women and children)
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work on a team
  • Ability to use a variety of tracking and research specific software including Microsoft Excel, Trello, and REDCap
  • Knowledge of good clinical practice and ethics in research
  • Willingness to learn new skills and contribute across multiple projects, as needed
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills to address issues in research as they arise

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment of research subjects, including evaluation of eligibility
  • Conducting research assessments both virtually and in person. These include interviews, review of electronic questionnaire data, blood pressure and other non-invasive clinical assessments, and medical record abstraction
  • Ensuring data quality
  • Scheduling research visits and tracking participant timelines and payments
  • Study administration tasks such as mailing supplies, generating summary reports, and requesting medical records
  • Working on a team to prioritize and complete research tasks with high quality and on time
  • Communicating with participants with a high level of respect and maintaining confidentiality and privacy
  • Supporting the lab's research mission through participation in research activities related to our current and future projects
  • Future studies may have a variety of related research duties
