About The Position

The Biostatistics Division in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral research associate. This role involves working with Dr. Hong Zhu and a multidisciplinary research team on the development and implementation of novel methods for comparative effectiveness research (CER) using complex observational healthcare data, specifically applied to cancer studies. Additionally, the associate will collaborate on and support multiple interdisciplinary research projects funded by an NCI-funded U54 Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant focused on childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia, under the supervision of Dr. Hong Zhu. Postdoctoral employment at UVA is temporary, typically limited to individuals who have received a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the past five years, and involves full-time research or scholarship. This position is considered a training opportunity, preparing the appointee for a full-time academic or research career, and allows for the publication of research results during the training period.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Dr. Hong Zhu and a multidisciplinary research team in development and implementation of novel methods for comparative effectiveness research (CER) using complex observational healthcare data, with application to cancer studies
  • Collaborate on and support multiple interdisciplinary research projects funded by a multi-institution, NCI-funded, U54 Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant on childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia, under the supervision of Dr. Hong Zhu, Co-Director of U54 Biostatistics and Data Management Core
  • Model multilevel survival data in the presence of confounding and missing data, machine learning approaches as appropriate (for CER project)
  • Develop computing programs and software (for CER project)
  • Apply new methods to real-world healthcare data (for CER project)
  • Plan and conduct database development and data management (for U54 projects)
  • Design and perform reproducible statistical analyses for interim and final reports (for U54 projects)
  • Assist with abstract and manuscript preparation (for U54 projects)
  • Develop and implement innovative procedures in data collection, data management, presentation of results, and statistical analyses (for U54 projects)
  • Participate in the development of publications for peer-reviewed journals and grant proposals to funding agencies
