About The Position

This temporary position, open until filled, involves performing moderately complex (journey-level) research work under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment. The role requires examining, preparing, and evaluating legal documents, conducting legal research, and providing assistance to agency attorneys.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree. (Must present transcripts at time of interview)
• Experience conducting legal research and knowledge of Westlaw research tools.
• Experience in research and working with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code.
• Knowledge of legal practices and terminology; and of spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, and grammar.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Skill in the use of a computer and Microsoft 365 programs.
• Ability to prepare legal documents.
• Possess a valid Texas driver license, or able to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
• Must be able to present a copy of law school transcripts at interview.

Responsibilities

• Assists with hearing preparation and drafting legal documents for hearings, summary judgment, and other briefing materials.
• Drafts discovery, expert designations, and other legal documents and pleadings as needed.
• Reads and assesses legal cases, writes case summaries, creates case timelines, and manages case evidence.
• Conducts comprehensive legal research to support the legal staff and collects, compiles, and analyzes research data.
• May draft memoranda on regulatory matters or administrative rules.
• Researches and analyzes legal issues and interprets laws, regulations, and rulings.
• Ensures all legal research and documents are accurate, thorough, and well-written.
• Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and protected information.
• Collaborates with the legal staff to develop strategies and provide support across various areas in the Office of General Counsel.
• Performs related work as assigned.
