About The Position

The Research Assistant II will serve as a resource within the Owen Lab, demonstrating competence in specific knowledge, skills, and behaviors. This role involves effectively communicating with team members, contributing to their growth by sharing knowledge, and staying abreast of changes in key systems. The assistant will perform experiments, record and analyze data, and design and execute daily laboratory experiments in coordination with senior personnel. They will also be responsible for troubleshooting and correcting erroneous results or equipment problems, maintaining inventory, cell cultures, and operating standard laboratory equipment. Additionally, the role includes assisting in the daily operations of the laboratory, such as answering phones, maintaining supplies, and ensuring organization and cleanliness, as well as providing safety monitoring checks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • May require an Associate degree, vocational training, apprenticeships or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Stay abreast of changes in key systems.
  • Follow research protocol.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments.
  • Analyze data; perform statistical and graphical analysis of data.
  • Design and execute daily laboratory experiments in coordination with senior laboratory personnel.
  • Reproduce and evaluate techniques and results for accuracy.
  • Apply standard protocols to specific experiments, research and improve current methods, and evaluate innovative techniques.
  • Assist in training students and new/junior laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
  • Maintain/manage strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders.
  • Respond to requests quickly and effectively.
  • Identify and understand customer needs and expectations and meets them.
  • Communicate any relevant information to clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot and correct erroneous results or problems with laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain cell cultures.
  • Operate standard laboratory equipment.
  • Use and maintain laboratory equipment appropriately.
  • Respond to obviously erroneous results or problems with equipment.
  • Assist in daily operations of the laboratory including answering phone, maintaining lab supplies, organization, and cleanliness.
  • Provide appropriate safety monitoring checks as assigned (radiation safety, biosafety, etc.).
