About The Position

The Research Assistant I in Dr. Trakala's lab provides technical assistance in animal genotyping and experiments, tissue processing and immunohistochemistry, or molecular biology and immunoblot analysis. Duties include organizing reagents and samples, and general laboratory duties such as ordering lab reagents, consumables, and receiving shipments. The position requires independent decision-making, judgment, and high organizational skills. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining safety standards in the laboratory. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, committed to research, and has at least one year of laboratory research experience. Candidates should be able to commit to the position for a minimum of one year; a commitment of two years or longer is strongly preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Basic Science
  • At least one year of laboratory research experience
  • Ability to commit to the position for a minimum of one year

Responsibilities

  • Support the principal investigator in all research and laboratory efforts
  • Organize laboratory reagents, samples, and consumables
  • Maintain adherence to laboratory safety standards
  • Perform animal experiments including breeding, weaning, genotyping, bleeding, injections, tissue harvesting, and downstream analysis
  • Maintain accurate animal inventory and ensure compliance with safety protocols
  • Train new laboratory members in animal techniques
  • Perform standard molecular biology procedures
  • Conduct tissue culture activities
  • Assist with immunoblot analysis
  • Support tissue processing and immunohistochemistry
  • Order laboratory reagents and supplies
  • Receive and organize laboratory shipments
  • Demonstrate proactive willingness to learn new techniques and scientific methods
