About The Position

The Research Assistant I position is located in the Leon Root Motion Analysis Laboratory (LRMALab) at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). This role involves the collection and analysis of 3D and 2D motion capture, ground reaction force, electromyographic, and plantar pressure data on patients to serve as the basis for their clinical treatment planning. This is a one-year full-time position which may be extended based upon both positive performance review and programmatic need. The LRMALab evaluates a wide range of individuals including pediatric, adult and geriatric in a multi-disciplinary environment, with typically 10 to 20 active research studies and a full caseload of lower extremity and upper extremity movement analysis patients. The central philosophy of the lab is to objectively examine anatomical/physiological structure and biomechanical function to improve methods of treating neuromusculoskeletal disease, with a vision to enhance diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment strategies.

Requirements

Bachelors degree (BS or BA) in engineering, rehabilitation, biology, physical therapy, kinesiology, anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, or a related discipline.
Interest and basic experience in the motion analysis process.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Experience in human movement analysis.
Prior clinical experience.

Responsibilities

Perform data collection and processing for individuals undergoing clinical movement analysis or research protocols.
Preparation and calibration of instrumentation for data collection and maintenance of laboratory space and equipment.
Manage research subject recruitment and related documentation, including contacting and screening subjects, test scheduling, providing informed consent, and updating and maintaining research study documents.
Assist with the preparation and submission of grants.
Communication with physicians, scientists, physical therapists, biomechanists, and administrative staff.
Work closely with LRMALab and HSS staff to creatively streamline study workflows and increase efficiency by identifying roadblocks, brainstorming alternative strategies, and scheduling meetings to appraise study progress.
