About The Position

The Research Assistant I position is a one-year full-time role within the Leon Root Motion Analysis Laboratory (LRMALab) at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). This position involves the collection and analysis of 3D and 2D motion capture, ground reaction force, electromyographic, and plantar pressure data on patients to aid in their clinical treatment planning. The role may be extended based on performance and programmatic need. HSS is a highly-ranked hospital for orthopedics and rheumatology, offering an innovative, supportive, and inclusive environment. The LRMALab evaluates a diverse patient population and manages numerous active research studies, focusing on objectively examining anatomical/physiological structure and biomechanical function to improve neuromusculoskeletal disease treatment.

Requirements

Bachelors degree (BS or BA) in engineering, rehabilitation, biology, physical therapy, kinesiology, anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, or a related discipline.
Interest and basic experience in the motion analysis process.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Experience in human movement analysis.
Prior clinical experience.

Responsibilities

Perform data collection and processing for individuals undergoing clinical movement analysis or research protocols.
Preparation and calibration of instrumentation for data collection and maintenance of laboratory space and equipment.
Manage research subject recruitment and related documentation, including contacting and screening subjects, test scheduling, providing informed consent, and updating/maintaining research study documents.
Assist with the preparation and submission of grants.
Communication with physicians, scientists, physical therapists, biomechanists, and administrative staff.
Work closely with LRMALab and HSS staff to streamline study workflows and increase efficiency by identifying roadblocks, brainstorming alternative strategies, and scheduling meetings to appraise study progress.
