About The Position

The Department of Equity, Ethics and Policy within the School of Population and Global Health is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and collaborative Research Assistant 2 to support applied mental health research focused on populations experiencing social and environmental adversity, including those affected by armed conflict and climate change. The successful candidate will join a dynamic interdisciplinary team consisting of undergraduate and graduate student researchers, postdoctoral fellows, project co-leads, and community-based and international partners. This position provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to impactful research initiatives addressing equity and global health challenges in Canada and internationally.

Requirements

Possess a Master's degree in Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience supporting health and/or social science research projects, including study coordination, participant recruitment, data collection, data management, and quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis.
Familiarity with research administration processes, including preparation of Research Ethics Board (REB) submissions, study documentation, progress reports, and grant or funding applications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare research materials, reports, presentations, and knowledge dissemination products for diverse audiences.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with experience interacting effectively with research participants, community partners, and multidisciplinary research teams.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary and multicultural research environments.
Strong organizational and project coordination skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing research priorities.
Demonstrated attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of research quality and integrity.
Proficiency in one or more additional languages relevant to the research project settings (e.g., Arabic, Armenian, French, Spanish, or Portuguese) is considered an asset.
Experience working with diverse, underserved, or vulnerable populations in Canada and/or international settings is considered an asset.
Experience with community-engaged, participatory, or patient-oriented research approaches is considered an asset.
Knowledge of research ethics, data privacy, and principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in research is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

Conduct applied mental health research projects using established protocols, procedures, and ethical standards, with a focus on populations experiencing social and environmental adversity.
Oversee and assist with the development and execution of qualitative and quantitative research activities, including participant recruitment, informed consent processes, data collection, questionnaire development, preparation of research materials, and study implementation.
Oversee and assist with the preparation of research ethics submissions, study protocols, consent forms, data collection instruments, and other research documentation.
Recommend and implement improvements to research methods, study procedures, standard operating procedures, and data management processes to support high-quality research.
Analyze and interpret qualitative and quantitative data using appropriate methodological approaches and contribute to the dissemination of research findings.
Write research reports, conference abstracts, scientific manuscripts, presentations, and other scholarly or methodological materials arising from research activities.
Assist with the preparation of grant applications, funding proposals, and supporting documents for research development initiatives.
Be responsible for the quality and results of assigned research activities, ensuring compliance with ethical, institutional, and funding agency requirements.
Provide technical guidance and training to student research assistants and trainees in research procedures, data collection methods, and project-related activities.
Perform various administrative tasks related to research projects.
