About The Position

The department of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Research Assistant. The Research Assistant contributes with research investigators by providing research and experimentation support while following established protocols. Further, the Research Assistant performs a clerical role to ensure the smooth operations of office facilities. The Research Assistant will participate in the research activities of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the Miller School of Medicine within the Department of Medicine. The individual will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI).

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates various scientific apparatus and makes minor repairs.
  • Prepares correspondence and answers phones.
  • Formulates and maintains bibliographies and completes applications and forms.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and maintains culture media reagents.
  • Reviews and edits various materials for publication, and prepares publication schedules.
  • Maintains appropriate logs, records, and study notebooks.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Recruitment capabilities and the screening of potential patients/subjects for eligibility to the study. This may include gathering information from the medical record, physician referral, advertisement and directly scheduling a visit to evaluate the patient/subject.
  • Demonstrates critical judgment to maintain the integrity of the research protocol without compromising patient safety.
  • Demonstrates appropriate skills relating to the execution of research protocols, such as determining eligibility, exclusion criteria, identifying need for modifications and adverse responses.
  • Prepare NIH and IRB applications.
  • Assist in the development of recruitment strategies and promotional materials.
  • Assist with the informed consent process and ensure that the patient/subject fully understands what is required of them throughout the study.
  • Create and maintain participant charts & coordinate participant appointments.
  • Collects, organizes and maintains source documentation.
  • Ensure protocol is being followed as approved by the IRB.
  • Participate in research activities by assisting in the collection of data, initiating research under supervision as appropriate.
  • Interact with patient/subject and families in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Be consistent and regularly follow through with your patient/subjects reminding them of visits and compliance.
  • Extend this courteous and professional manner to staff within the School of Medicine and the Medical Center staff.
