About The Position

The Division of Medical Oncology is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) benefits-eligible Research and Grants Specialist. This role will work under the Finance and Accounting Principal Professional to maintain day-to-day financial operations in the Division, including grant post-award monitoring and other financial duties. Employees will have the opportunity to learn how to analyze University, research, and clinical data to help inform faculty and leadership decisions and ensure efficient and accurate decision-making. This position will work closely with the Division Administrator, PIs, and key administrative staff within the divisions to ensure accurate grant and clinical trial contracting. This position will also interact with and collaborate closely with the Office of Grants and Contracts (OGC) and external sponsors on billing and financial reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • One (1) year of grant experience at an institution of higher learning (for Intermediate Level).
  • An advanced degree (Master's or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment (for Intermediate Level).
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
  • Must live within 50 miles of CU Anschutz.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Ability to self-start.
  • Time management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a healthcare environment.
  • Three (3) years of grant experience at an institution of higher learning.
  • Experience with University of Colorado finance systems (i.e., InfoEd, m-Fin, Concur, Marketplace).
  • Clinical, laboratory, or research experience.
  • Contracts and finance experience.
  • Program and/or project management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and updates monthly financial reports for all PI’s that have research funding as well as reports for leadership in the Division.
  • Ensures that the award setup accurately reflects the terms and conditions of the award as well as anticipated spending; requests appropriate rebudgeting from OGC and/or the sponsor when required.
  • Prepares documentation for OGC to draft subcontracts; monitors contract execution, account set-up, invoicing, and compliance.
  • Reviews all expenditures to ensure that division researchers adhere to institutional policies and procedures, as well as to all applicable federal, state, and sponsor rules and regulations.
  • Completes Journal Entries and Payroll Expense transfers as needed on grant accounts.
  • Works with Pre-Award Coordinator to process progress reports, including working with Principal Investigators to prepare and submit progress reports (RPPRs) as required by project sponsors.
