The Research and Development Intern will support advanced research in power conversion, electric-drive systems, power modules, energy-conversion architectures, and related electrification technologies within GM’s Energy and Propulsion Systems Research organization. Work may include concept generation, circuit and system analysis, modeling and simulation, proof-of-concept design, hardware build, laboratory testing, troubleshooting, data analysis, and technical documentation, depending on the intern’s background, interests, and project needs. Potential research areas include embedded PCB power modules, multilevel inverters, next-generation power semiconductors, gate-drive systems, vehicle inverter and motor-system optimization, multifunctional or multiplexed power electronics, low-voltage vehicle-system cost reduction, onboard chargers, auxiliary DC-DC converters, electromagnetic-interference measurement and mitigation, and advanced power-conversion architectures. The intern will join the Power Electronics & Energy Conversion Systems group, which connects laboratory research, analytical modeling, simulation, prototype hardware, and experimental validation to support future GM electric, hybrid, and propulsion applications. The work takes place in a collaborative research environment focused on efficiency, power density, performance, reliability, cost, thermal behavior, and system integration. The position is hybrid, with an expectation to report to Pontiac, Michigan, or Warren, Michigan, at least three times per week, or at another frequency dictated by the business. Start dates are May 24, 2027, and June 14, 2027. The role requires the successful candidate to be a U.S. Person due to export-control restrictions. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
