About The Position

The Clinical Addictions Research Laboratory (CARL) was established in 1997 under the direction of Andrea King, PhD., Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Chicago. The lab's mission is to determine factors contributing to excessive use of alcohol, tobacco, and other substances, and to develop more effective interventions for substance use disorders, particularly tobacco dependence. The Research Analyst will work within a clinical research laboratory conducting human research, including laboratory and intervention studies involving alcohol administration, tracking drinking and substance use behaviors, vaping and smoking cue research, and treatment studies. This role involves assisting the Principal Investigator and Study Coordinators in managing and coordinating laboratory operations and personnel. The position requires strong research analytical, problem-solving, administrative, and organizational skills. Experience with Redcap databases is preferred. The ability to train and supervise others and to work collaboratively in an academic environment is essential.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations, including organizing and leading team meetings, managing laboratory physical space and electronic files, coordinating communications with administrative and grant staff, overseeing safety protocols, assisting with new staff onboarding and human resources, and managing time approvals.
  • Conduct research protocols, such as testing participants in experimental sessions, performing telephone and in-person screening interviews and eligibility determination, assisting with database management, and overseeing staff on research progress and pacing.
  • Perform administrative duties including supply inventory, procurement, organization, biological sample storage, shipping, contracts, submission of expenses and post-award management, and webinars.
  • Organize special projects management, including assisting with grant submissions, manuscripts, graphical output, and mass mailings for participant retention.
  • Maintain technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyze and maintain data and/or specimens.
  • Conduct literature reviews.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, manuscripts, and other documents.
  • Maintain recruiting and scheduling of research subjects.
  • Assist with developing or amending study protocols.
  • Assist with developing data collection tools.
  • Assist with building databases.
  • Provide general administrative support.
  • Possess general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific fields.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
