The Research Analyst works in the HIV Epidemiology Program (HEP) within the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Bureau of Hepatitis, HIV, and Sexually Transmitted Infections. HEP monitors trends in New York City’s HIV epidemic and develops programming informed by data about the distribution and demographics of HIV. Its analyses help inform HIV-related public health policy at local, state, and national levels. The position is part of the Core Surveillance Special Projects Unit, which develops and conducts projects related to HIV surveillance, including Project EXPAND and registry connectivity projects. Project EXPAND collects additional information from newly diagnosed people in priority populations and from people whose primary cause of death was HIV, to better describe these populations and identify missed prevention opportunities. Registry connectivity projects link surveillance data with other electronic medical record systems to provide real-time alerts intended to help engage people who are out of care. The Research Analyst leads quality assurance activities for Project EXPAND, maintains and programs QDS CAPI survey instruments, supports data collection and training, and assists with data cleaning, analysis, reporting, and dissemination. The role also contributes to routine HIV surveillance work and to the development and monitoring of registry connectivity projects. Appointments are subject to a minimum one-year probationary period.
