About The Position

The Department of Microbiology faculty researches a vast array of bacteria and viruses. We are a community of faculty, postdoctoral scholars, students, and staff committed to research and education in the field of microbiology. Our faculty conduct interdisciplinary research that advances the study of microbes and microbial diseases. Basic research in Microbiology underwrites our effort for eradication of important pathogens, prevention of human diseases, development of gene therapies and the evolution of new strategies for personalized medicine. We are also committed to training the next generation of scientists. This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance. The Research Analyst provides basic technical support activities related to scientific research projects. Complies with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
  • Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
  • Knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, and microbiology.

Nice To Haves

  • Working experience in one of the following fields: molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, or microbiology.
  • Working experience in small animal models.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform experimental and small animal research in Biosafety Level 2 laboratories.
  • Perform basic cell and molecular biology experiments including growing bacterial and mammalian cultures, cloning, as well as performing genetic manipulations, microscopy, biochemistry, and purification of proteins.
  • Collaborate and communicate with other laboratory members.
  • Performs laboratory organization and record-keeping.
  • Assists in preparation of common reagents.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens.
  • Conducts literature reviews.
  • Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
