About The Position

The incumbent will provide research administrative support to the Department of Dermatology inclusive of 24 full-time faculty members, 18 residents and fellows, and other trainees that this position would help support. The individual will be responsible for the implementation and coordination of the daily operational functions associated with the administration of research and will report directly to the Research Manager. The incumbent should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal, be detail-oriented and organized, and highly skilled in managing multiple ongoing projects simultaneously.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of program administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
  • Ability to manage high volume and complex transactions.
  • Ability to perform highly complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Demonstrated advanced competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
  • Maintains knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional and departmental policies.
  • Knowledge of current compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Ability to interpret policy for others.
  • Advanced knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • 5-7 years of experience preferably in an academic medical center environment.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
  • Experience with all types of award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, subcontracts, and cooperative agreements.
  • Full knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation, Code of Federal Regulations, sponsor-specific policies, intellectual property policy, conflict of interest requirements, publication rights, application of indirect cost rates and other complex concepts in research administration.
  • Advanced ability to create and train grant writing and other communications skills in a variety of styles to ensure securing grant funding required.
  • Familiarity with UC policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with grants and contracts pre-award and post-award processes.
  • Familiarity with IRB submissions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or oversee research proposals, awards, and/or transactions related to contract and grant management.
  • Maintain contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies.
  • Work on proposals and awards of diverse scope where analysis of data requires thorough understanding of complex regulations.
  • Complete and approve transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official.
  • Work on complex proposals and awards that may involve multiple investigators and/or multiple sub awards.
  • Review and manage human subjects research IRB protocols.
  • Manage researcher training and tracking.
  • Assist with all aspects of research operations, including maintaining and monitoring research compliance.
  • Track and report subject enrollment.
  • Manage study start-up.
