About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Labor (DOL) is currently recruiting to fill a Research Analyst position within the agency's Office of Research, located in Wethersfield, CT. This role involves conducting all aspects of the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII), a mandatory survey collected from private and public sector employers. The analyst will contact respondents via phone and email to clarify and correct data, explain Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules, and document all changes. Additionally, the analyst will contact non-respondents to collect survey data and use required classification manuals to code descriptions of injuries or illnesses. The Office of Research is Connecticut’s leading producer of information and statistics on the economy, workplace, occupations, and careers, preparing resources for assessing the state’s needs for skilled workers, assisting in economic development, aiding in program planning for education and training providers, and guiding career choices.

Requirements

• Six (6) or more years of professional experience in research, data analysis or economics.
• Knowledge of research methods and techniques.
• Knowledge of statistics.
• Interpersonal skills.
• Oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to analyze data.
• Ability to develop programs and use prepackaged computer programs to perform data analysis.
• Ability to understand agency related policies and procedures as they relate to research.

Nice To Haves

• Experience communicating to collect data.
• Experience with developing, conducting and analyzing surveys.
• Experience with sampling for surveys.
• Experience classifying illnesses and injuries in a working environment.
• Experience using the Standard Occupational Classification System (SOC) or the Occupational Injury and Illness Classification Manual.
• Experience working in municipal, state, or federal government.
• Experience with compliance for policies, procedures, or processes for safe, ethical, and secure use of data.
• Experience managing, cleaning, and analyzing large datasets in a working environment.
• Experience working in a fast-paced office environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct all aspects of the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII).
• Contact respondents via phone and email to clarify and correct data.
• Explain Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules.
• Document all changes made to survey data.
• Contact non-respondents via phone and email to collect survey data.
• Use required classification manuals to code descriptions of injuries or illnesses by nature of injury or illness.
• Develops and implements formal research projects and assists in these activities on more comprehensive and complex research assignments.
• Analyzes, interprets and prepares data in a variety of ways.
• Prepares narrative and statistical reports.
• Develops computerized databases and analyzes and interprets computer generated reports.
• Performs related duties as required.
