About The Position

The Resale Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the organization’s thrift/resale store, ensuring the store supports the non-profit’s mission through revenue generation, community engagement, and volunteer involvement. This role includes staff and volunteer supervision, inventory management, merchandising, customer service, and community outreach. This position is responsible for generating net revenue for each shop’s location in accordance with annual action plans/expense budgets.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED; college courses in retail merchandising and/or management a plus
  • Minimum of 3 years business experience; preferably in a retail setting as a store clerk or experience with transferable skills relating to the duties of the position; experience supervising staff and/or volunteers
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of initiative/self-starter
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently operate cash registers while following cash handling procedures
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at hand
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Valid Ohio Driver's License with Safe Driving Record
  • State Minimum Automobile Insurance Coverage

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day store operations, ensuring a clean, organized, and welcoming shopping environment.
  • Oversee the purchase of supplies used in the stores, ensure that required furniture spraying/tagging takes place prior to offering upholstered items for sale in accordance with all health and safety regulations.
  • Direct the opening and closing of the store, including cash handling and reconciliation.
  • Enforce and maintain policies and procedures for safety, security, and efficiency.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a positive, mission-driven team culture.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, performance reviews, and conflict resolution.
  • Oversee donation intake, sorting, pricing, and display of merchandise.
  • Ensure effective inventory rotation and visual merchandising strategies to optimize sales.
  • Maintain donation processing efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Provide excellent customer service and model this standard for staff and volunteers.
  • Handle customer inquiries, returns, and complaints professionally.
  • Promote the mission of the non-profit through customer and community interactions.
  • Meet or exceed sales goals and manage the store budget in alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Track daily sales, manage petty cash, and prepare financial reports for leadership.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and maximize profitability.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to develop in-store promotions and community outreach efforts.
  • Represent the organization positively in the community to encourage donations and partnerships.
  • Plan or support special events (e.g., raffles, seasonal sales, Facebook posts).
