About The Position

Provides support by performing various clerical duties, data entry, scheduling tests and discharge functions within unit operations to affect a smooth, efficient and customer responsive patient flow of services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • At least 1 year experience clerical, customer service, or related experience such as medical office, secretarial, general clerical or customer/guest services. Required

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with all visitors, coworkers and other departments in a customer friendly manner.
  • Handles all telephone calls in a customer friendly manner.
  • Makes appointments for patients in compliance with unit standards and hospital policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Maintains identified patient record while the patient is admitted to the patient care area.
  • Performs all tasks associated with maintaining patient census.
  • Utilizes computer and related equipment to update, revise and maintain all information in the identified computer system.
  • Confers and works collaboratively with patient/family/hospital staff in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction.
  • Establishes and maintains floor inventory of identified forms and supplies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient, department and hospital information.
  • Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
  • Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities.
  • Transports mail, records, reports and files.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment in direct and indirect patient care areas.
  • Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, patient safety, environment and infection control standards.
  • Provides coverage for relief and absences as required.
  • Responsible for managing the hospital’s birth certificate process.
  • Obtains accurate parent/child information and files the information with the State of Tennessee within 30 days of birth.
  • Provides parent(s) with a Mother’s copy of the birth certificate prior to discharge.
  • Adheres to the birth certificate protocols set forth by the State of Tennessee.
