This position is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, which serves as the foundation for the patient medical record utilized by all members of the healthcare team. It plays a crucial role in preventing duplicate medical records, ensuring patient safety, and facilitating accurate billing. The role involves checking in and registering patients, obtaining and verifying demographic, guarantor, and insurance information, and collecting co-pays and other patient financial responsibilities. Maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA is paramount. The Patient Service Representative must understand insurance basics, Advocate Health contracts, and when financial responsibility statements are needed. They will also discuss financial information with patients and refer them to Financial Advocates when necessary. This role ensures compliance with government agencies and regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, and others by enforcing necessary rules, forms, and questions. Additionally, the position may involve scheduling appointments, coordinating cancellations and reschedules, and providing detailed information to patients regarding preparations and procedures. A key aspect of this role is creating a welcoming and professional environment through extraordinary customer service, greeting patients and visitors, responding to requests, answering telephones, and offering assistance with various patient needs. The representative will also monitor and work assigned electronic health record work queues according to departmental processes.
