The Patient Financial Services Representative (PFSR) is the first point of contact for patients and guarantors in a hospital, ambulatory, or medical office setting. The representative gathers and verifies demographic, financial, and insurance eligibility information, answers questions, and ensures required notices and consent forms are completed and signed. The role requires excellent communication and critical-thinking skills, decisive judgment, the ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment, and collaborative relationship-building. Duties may vary by setting. In Memorial Physician Group specialty practices, responsibilities may include specialty authorizations, denial and peer-to-peer processes, appointment and procedure scheduling, incoming calls, and referrals. Hospital-specific duties may include placing patient identification bands after validating identity, obtaining hospital-specific regulatory signatures and walk-in authorizations, and determining when financial assistance is needed. Memorial Primary Care duties may include patient referrals, payment collection, eligibility scheduling, processing referral work queues and same-day access requests, responding to real-time patient requests, addressing prescription refill and patient advice requests through MyChart, and managing provider scheduling templates. For Physician Practices (MPG, MPC and UCC), the employee must be willing to travel to other locations based on business needs; mileage reimbursement is provided.
