About The Position

Serves as a student representative on the Houston City College’s Data-to-Action Campaign project team for Parenting Students at Texas Colleges and Universities (D2A-TX). The position provides insight into the experiences, needs, and challenges of parenting students and helps ensure that project activities, data collection efforts, and improvement strategies reflect the student perspective.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Currently enrolled as an HCC student or HCC alumni (within the 6 months).
• Student must be a parent or primary caregiver while enrolled at HCC.
• Interest in student success, educational access, and institutional improvement.
• Ability to communicate experiences and perspectives constructively.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Interest in research, surveys, focus groups, or student engagement initiatives.
• Ability to participate in meetings and project activities throughout the grant period.

Nice To Haves

• Experience serving in student leadership, advisory groups, or advocacy activities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide feedback on proposed surveys, questionnaires, and data collection tools designed to better understand the experiences of parenting students.
• Participate in meetings, discussions, and planning sessions related to the initiative.
• Provide relevant experiences and perspectives to guide the identification of barriers and the development of strategies that improve outcomes for parenting students.
• Support outreach and engagement efforts to encourage participation from parenting students.
• Assist with creation of a Parenting-Student Advisory Board.
• Participate in conference presentations, convenings, or project dissemination activities when appropriate.
• Collaborate with project staff, researchers, and institutional stakeholders to inform continuous improvement efforts.
• Serve on the Urban Institute’s Student Advisor Panel.
