About The Position

POLITICO is seeking exceptional college students and recent graduates for its Fall 2026 reporting internship program. Ideal candidates are enterprising and creative journalists who want to report and write for an audience of political and policy junkies. Interns will have the opportunity to work on specific teams: Breaking News (covering fast-paced developments and turning around stories on Washington’s most important power players and events), Policy (working as full-time beat reporters on policy teams covering the federal government's role in areas like health care, transportation, technology, and education), and Congress (Energy & Environment) (reporting on energy and environmental developments on Capitol Hill).

Requirements

  • Demonstrated interest in Washington, politics and policy
  • Strong foundational reporting and writing skills
  • Excellent news judgment
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadlines
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Proven experience in a newsroom.

Responsibilities

  • Cover fast-paced developments in real time, quickly turning around stories on Washington’s most important power players and events.
  • Work as full-time beat reporters on one of our policy reporting teams that cover the federal government role in every aspect of American life, including health care, transportation, technology, education and more.
  • Report on energy and environmental developments on Capitol Hill, covering the major players to keep top decision makers informed and ahead of the curve.
  • Work independently (and with your team) on breaking news, enterprise, newsletters and more.
  • Report in the field as needed, including on Capitol Hill.
