About The Position

The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead is seeking a business reporter to join its newsroom and report on coverage that readers have shown strong interest in. The reporter will develop knowledgeable and diverse sources, generate story ideas, cover breaking business news, and enhance digital presentations of stories. The role includes attending a weekly in-person meeting to discuss digital readership metrics and story ideas.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education or experience in journalism.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Approachable demeanor and ability to relate to people in the community.
Ability to balance competing demands, set priorities, and manage several issues at once.
Strong writing and interviewing skills, including listening to interview subjects and taking accurate notes.
Knowledge of freedom of information and libel laws.
Fairness and sensitivity toward readers and subjects of articles.
Valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by the company.

Nice To Haves

At least one year of experience in a professional newsroom is preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop beats that include knowledgeable and diverse sources.
Generate story ideas and cover breaking business news.
Use social media to promote stories and interact with readers.
Take photographs and video as needed.
Enhance online story presentations with related content, including public-record PDFs, YouTube videos, and Facebook and Instagram posts.
Pay attention to coverage from other outlets.
Attend once-weekly in-person meetings to discuss digital readership metrics and story ideas.
Perform other duties as assigned.
