About The Position

The Reporter defines a clear and compelling vision for the look, feel, and voice of the organization's products, including its digital news operation, printed weekly edition, and daily emails. The role reports and writes short- and long-form stories for the website and weekly print edition, owns a coverage beat, and directs day-to-day coverage. The Reporter develops sources, manages relationships with executives and community leaders, and produces source-driven exclusives. The position aims to break significant stories ahead of competitors and explain not only what happened, but why and how.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Desire and ability to break news and identify newsworthy events and sources.
• Strong analytical and investigative-interviewing skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to relate comfortably to a wide range of people in person, by phone, and online.
• Drive to develop sources and build an audience.
• Solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics, and story structure.
• Ability to leverage source relationships to deliver content that differentiates the organization from competitors.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
• Proficiency with web-based communication platforms such as Teams, Zoom, and Webex.

Nice To Haves

• Multimedia skills, including video, photography, broadcast, or on-camera skills.
