About The Position

Dakota News Live, the CBS affiliate in Bismarck, North Dakota, is hiring a News/Sports MMJ/Reporter to cover a variety of stories for television and digital platforms. The role involves developing and pitching story ideas, conducting interviews, shooting and editing video, writing stories, and reporting live from breaking news and major events. The reporter will contribute to digital platforms, work with the company’s ABC station in Bismarck, and may cover sports and stories important to viewers. The newsroom is growing and offers opportunities for journalists to develop skills and careers while providing local news, weather, and sports to Western North Dakota.

Requirements

• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Be organized, curious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced newsroom.
• Strong news judgment and the ability to identify compelling stories and prioritize coverage based on urgency and audience impact.
• Ability to write clearly, accurately, and concisely under deadline pressure while managing multiple assignments.
• Comfort delivering live reports and appearing on camera professionally and confidently.
• Strong research, interviewing, and fact-checking skills, with a commitment to accuracy and fairness and excellent attention to detail.
• Flexibility to work varied schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as news coverage requires.
• Valid driver’s license and a driving record insurable by the company.
• Maintain an acceptable level of vehicle insurance as required by the company.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communications, or a related field; equivalent relevant work experience will be considered.
• Prior experience in broadcast journalism, reporting, or multimedia content creation; internships and student media are acceptable.
• Experience using digital analytics tools and social media platforms to inform and engage audiences.
• Ability to shoot, edit, or collaborate effectively on video production.
