About The Position
CNN Digital is looking for a Writer to join their team covering the US legal system, Supreme Court, Justice Department and other high-profile legal issues. This writer will work with reporters across CNN’s Washington, DC-based Justice newsgathering team as well as CNN’s digital teams to break news and cover the stories and conversations across the justice and legal world. The role involves collaborating on, reporting, and writing daily stories, breaking news, long-term and evergreen projects. Key skills include top-notch writing, the ability to execute quickly and cleanly, and expertise in elevating storytelling. The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable about shaping pitches, executing assignments, enjoy team collaboration, and have a proven track record of successful collaboration in a matrixed organization. The beat area will include the US legal system and courts, the US Supreme Court, civil rights and policy issues, and the Justice Department.
Requirements
- 2+ years of editorial experience
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills
- An understanding of how to write and frame stories for a digital audience
- Ability to report and write breaking news on deadline
- Ability to collaborate across teams to produce content, brainstorm ideas and cover fast-breaking news
Nice To Haves
- College degree preferred
- Experience with legal or justice coverage preferred, but not required
