About The Position

CBC London is seeking an experienced on-air leader for a one-year temporary full-time position. This role requires full-time on-site presence and involves multi-platform storytelling, emphasizing live and responsive reporting rooted in the community. The Reporter-Editor will be responsible for setting the news agenda, providing critical information to audiences in London and the surrounding region, and collaborating to ensure content resonates across various platforms. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, early morning environment, is interested in operating radio studio consoles, and is comfortable going live while meeting multiple deadlines. The role also requires technical adaptability and a willingness to learn new tools.

Requirements

  • Experience and proven ability to write and voice concise and critical stories for radio.
  • Experience in the field as a reporter with examples of enterprise journalism.
  • Experience working in a live broadcast environment.
  • Demonstrated connection to and knowledge of London and region.
  • Proven ability to work in a diverse team.
  • Technical ability to self-operate radio control-booth equipment to record news reports and scripts.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • High energy and enthusiasm towards journalism.
  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Five years of experience in news media.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early mornings.
  • Technically adept and willing to learn CBC’s tools.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting, producing, and presenting news on London Morning, the region’s number one radio morning program.
  • Contributing stories to digital platforms throughout the day.
  • Presenting newscasts and engaging with audiences through appropriate platforms.
  • Bringing experience and journalistic judgment to the newsroom to support the team.
  • Guiding editorial decisions.
  • Tapping into local communities to give voice to newsmakers.
  • Experimenting with different storytelling formats and technology to suit audience needs.
  • Pitching and chasing original ideas that set the agenda in London.
  • Interviewing sources and writing news stories for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Packaging, preparing, and delivering radio newscasts and bulletins adhering to style and format.
  • Gathering, capturing, editing, and manipulating content using current technology.
  • Editing stories written by team members when needed.
  • Identifying potential legal issues and journalistic policy violations.
  • Responding in breaking situations and working under the daily pressures of a busy newsroom.
  • Gathering audio and video material in the field, editing and packaging it for sharing on required platforms.
