2nd shift Repair Technician 1 - Trains on 1st Shift

About The Position

This position will train on 1st shift (Mon-Thurs 6:00am to 4:30pm) for a few weeks, then transfer to 2nd shift (Mon-Thur 4:45pm to 3:15am). The role involves basic disassembly and washing, and reassembly of freight or locomotive valves or brake pistons. It requires identifying serviceable vs. non-serviceable parts, operating semi-automatic equipment, handling parts and tools safely, and proper use of power and manual tools. The technician must understand and comply with all quality and safety rules, guidelines, policies, and procedures, including hazardous waste management. A Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials Ground Shipper certification is required every three years. The position also requires understanding and supporting Quality, Product Safety, and Health/Safety/Environmental/Energy policies, as well as Integrated Management System policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted best practices and theory.
  • Good mechanical skills
  • Knowledge of shop use measuring devices.
  • Ability to complete disassembly process without destroying parts.
  • Basic knowledge of quantitative methods/statistical procedures and graphic skills.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred)
  • One to Two years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Basic disassembly and washing, and reassembly of freight or locomotive valves or brake pistons.
  • Identify serviceable vs. non serviceable parts.
  • Operation of semi-automatic equipment i.e. pedestal buffers, hand buffers, wash machines, ultra-sonic washers.
  • Handle valves, parts, tools in a safe manner.
  • Proper use of power and manual tools. i.e. impact wrenches, drills, EZ Outs, hand tools.
  • Understand and comply with all quality and safety rules, guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Perform hazardous waste management duties as necessary.
  • Complete Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials Ground Shipper certification every three (3) years.
  • Understand and support all Quality, Product Safety, and Health/Safety/Environmental/Energy policies.
  • Understand and adhere to all relevant statutory or regulatory compliance obligations.
  • Understand, support and adhere to the Integrated Management System policies, procedures and instructions.
  • Understand and support relevant key performance indicators (KPIs), as defined in the goal tree.
