About The Position

The primary function of this position is to perform advanced mechanical repairs and assembly on compact construction, aerial and allied equipment by troubleshooting and using various diagnostic equipment. This role involves using manuals, repair manuals, and parts diagrams for independent troubleshooting and repair. The technician will use various tools and equipment, including lift trucks, overhead cranes, hand and power tools, and diagnostic equipment to disassemble, repair, and test parts and equipment. They will also be responsible for inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components. Additionally, the role includes using instruments and computers to reprogram equipment controllers and performing cosmetic repairs like cleaning and painting.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • Four years of work experience.
  • At least two years of experience with CAT equipment.
  • Proficiency in at least two mechanical systems (e.g., transmissions, engines, hydraulics) for numerous model lines.
  • Ability to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend, and climb onto and underneath various equipment.
  • Ability to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports.
  • Ability to routinely and physically lift or position various parts up to 112 pounds, and use mechanical hoists for heavier parts.
  • Ability to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders.
  • Cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge, written information, and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing technical equipment operational problems.
  • Exposure to P.C. base equipment and parts information.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced mechanical repairs and assembly on compact construction, aerial and allied equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment using diagnostic equipment, manuals, and parts diagrams.
  • Use lift trucks, overhead cranes, and other aids to move and position parts.
  • Remove, install, replace, rebuild, repair, and test parts/equipment using hand and power tools.
  • Reference parts information and enter data into record systems using computers.
  • Disassemble and reassemble parts or equipment, clean parts, and make diagnostic checks.
  • Climb onto, under, and into vehicles to access all parts for repair.
  • Use overhead hoists, lift devices, and forklifts to move heavy components.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Repair engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components.
  • Clean and paint vehicles using power washers and spray paint equipment.
  • Reprogram equipment controllers using instruments and computers.
