About The Position

The primary function of this position is to perform advanced mechanical repairs and assembly on compact construction, aerial and allied equipment by troubleshooting and using various diagnostic equipment. This role involves using manuals, repair manuals, and parts diagrams for independent troubleshooting and repair. The technician will use various tools and equipment, including lift trucks, overhead cranes, hand and power tools, and diagnostic equipment, to disassemble, repair, and reassemble parts and equipment. Responsibilities include performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairing engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components. The role also requires using computers for referencing parts, obtaining information, and data entry, as well as reprogramming equipment controllers. The technician must be able to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders and possess cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Requirements

High school education or GED
Four years of work experience
At least two years' experience with CAT equipment
Proficient in at least two mechanical systems (i.e. transmissions, engines, hydraulics, etc.) for numerous model lines
Must be able to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend and climb beside, onto and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs
Must be able to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports
Must be able to routinely and physically lift/position various parts to perform repairs/service and manually handle parts up to 112 pounds, as well as use mechanical hoist for heavier parts
Must have cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge, written information and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing unusual and/or unknown technical equipment operational problems

Responsibilities

Perform advanced mechanical repairs and assembly on compact construction, aerial and allied equipment by troubleshooting and using various diagnostic equipment.
Use manuals, repair manuals, and parts diagrams to perform independent troubleshooting and repair of construction equipment.
Use lift trucks, overhead cranes, and other aids to lift or move parts into position for repair.
Use hand and power tools to remove, install, replace, rebuild, repair, and test parts/equipment on construction equipment.
Use miscellaneous resources and computers to reference parts, get information about parts, and enter data into record systems.
Disassemble/re-assemble parts or equipment; clean parts with rags, cleaners, power washer; use test equipment to make diagnostic checks; and control powered equipment or tools to make repairs.
Climb up onto, under, and into vehicles to gain access to all parts of the vehicle.
Use overhead hoists, lift devices, forklifts, and other aids to move items off vehicles (tracks, idler wheels, blades, etc.) and then to move parts to locations for disassembly, repair, then back to the vehicle for reassembly.
Perform inspections and preventative maintenance.
Repair engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components.
Use power washers and spray paint equipment to clean and paint vehicles.
Use instruments and computers to reprogram equipment controllers.
Effectively write repair activities on customer work orders.
Apply knowledge, written information, and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing unusual and/or unknown technical equipment operational problems.
