About The Position

Operate and monitor the various machines which convert meat and feathers into protein meal. This role involves several specialized operator functions including Control Room Operator, Pollution Operator, Meat Operator, Fat Room Operator, Grinding Room Operator, and Feather Operator. The position requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to follow safety and quality procedures.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in a hot environment (up to 110°F) for 8-10 hours.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to work with and adjust machines, some with sharp blades.
  • Demonstrated mechanical, basic math, and science skills.
  • Good English-speaking skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs safely.
  • Capability of using small tools.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time (8-10 hours) on a concrete/metal grate floor.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairways and ladders quickly and routinely.
  • Must be able to submit and pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor machines that convert meat and feathers into protein meal.
  • Maintain cook logs for meat and feather cooking during the shift.
  • Monitor the progress of each cook and contact maintenance or electricians for mechanical problems.
  • Check timers on feather and meat cookers.
  • Monitor solution tanks and cross flow scrubber.
  • Check chemical concentration to ensure it is within standards and maintain logs.
  • Load bulk trucks as needed.
  • Monitor product flow from perc-pans to surge hopper through expellers.
  • Monitor raw product bins and fat tank levels, filter dirty fat, and run filter cake out.
  • Monitor product flow through the grinding room.
  • Check shaker screens and disintegrator screens for holes.
  • Dump barrels, gondolas, etc.
  • Monitor levels on outside storage bins.
  • Load raw feathers into the feather table when necessary.
  • Monitor the flow of raw feather into the feather cooker.
  • Clear drops on the feather cooker.
  • Monitor pressure inside the feather cooker and run moisture checks every hour to ensure moisture does not exceed 6%.
  • Complete required food safety and quality documentation.
  • Perform general cleaning.
  • Assist other crews as needed.
  • Report mechanical problems to appropriate personnel.
