About The Position

Dow is looking for a Remediation Specialist to support our South Charleston, WV remediation needs. As the Remediation Specialist, you will primarily support remediation projects, along with the operations, maintenance, and monitoring of existing remedies. The Environmental Remediation team manages soil, sediment, soil vapor, and groundwater contamination. The team uses innovative approaches, including nature-based solutions, to prevent adverse effects to human health and the environment and to encourage the beneficial reuse of impacted land. In this role, you will support a Remediation Manager who leads a portfolio of remediation opportunities to effectively manage historical groundwater and soil liabilities in order to meet regulatory and permit requirements. You will work with consulting project teams and partner with multiple stakeholders and functions across Dow. You will also support the Remediation Manager in identifying opportunities to redirect or enhance technical and management strategies for individual projects to accelerate progress toward closure while reducing both annual and life-cycle costs. To be successful in this role, a background in remediation and an understanding of regulatory interpretation are valuable assets.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an associate's degree or diploma in Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Management, or a related discipline is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in one or more of the following fields: remediation, environmental operations, regulatory, or project management.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • No visa sponsorship or support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • 3+ years of relevant military experience also accepted.
  • Developing skills in remediation, soil, and groundwater technologies.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Familiarity with one or more regulatory frameworks in North America.
  • Experience communicating difficult or sensitive technical information.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in reducing liabilities and closing sites.
  • Manage budgets and accruals for environmental liabilities.
  • Ensure contamination is addressed in accordance with government regulations and apply best practices when standards and regulations are advisory.
  • Assist in developing strategies for investigation or remediation plans and lead, or support the leadership of, their implementation.
  • Effectively communicate strategy and objectives to field teams, site stakeholders, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and accountability to ensure systems put in place to address remediation issues are operated and managed to maintain regulatory compliance and minimize long-term operating costs.
  • Review technical reports prior to submission to regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrate passion, priority, and commitment to safety through personal behavior, and ensure EH&S programs are in place to achieve EH&S goals.
