About The Position

The Remediation Tutor provides academic support to students enrolled in the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and Master of Medical Sciences (MMS) programs who are participating in course remediation or experiencing academic difficulty. Tutors assist students in strengthening foundational knowledge, improving study strategies, and developing independent learning skills within a supportive and professional learning environment. This position promotes academic success while upholding university standards of professionalism, inclusivity, confidentiality, and academic integrity.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of effective study strategies and learning techniques.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • Commitment to academic integrity and inclusive learning practices.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and for the duration of their employment with PNWU.
  • Employment eligibility will be verified in accordance with federal law.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate individual and/or small-group remediation tutoring sessions in assigned subject areas.
  • Assist students with reviewing course concepts, applying knowledge, and developing effective study strategies.
  • Encourage active participation, critical thinking, and independent learning during tutoring sessions.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and appropriate tutor-student boundaries.
  • Document tutoring sessions and communicate relevant concerns to the Learning Skills Specialist as appropriate.
  • Participate in tutor training sessions, meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and academically focused learning environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need.
