About The Position

Cristo Rey San José Jesuit High School is seeking a Religious Studies Teacher who will also serve as the Service Learning Coordinator for the 2026-2027 school year. This role involves teaching 1-2 sections in the Religion department and managing service learning initiatives within the Student Life Team. The position collaborates closely with the Religion Department and Campus Ministry to foster the school's Catholic and Jesuit identity, nurturing students' spiritual lives and encouraging them to become leaders who serve others. The programs are rooted in the Jesuit tradition, inspired by Gospel values, and designed to integrate faith, culture, and life, encouraging critical and ethical thinking. The ultimate goal is the formation of morally grounded young adults who have a relationship with Jesus Christ and are realizing their unique gifts and vocations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with relevant major, Master’s degree, Teaching Credential, or professional experience.
  • Ability to use teaching technologies, online and in person.
  • Successful clearance of a background check, CANRA, and any other state and federal requirements.

  • Teachers without a Credential are required to begin a program within a year of starting employment and to complete the Credential within five years.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and instruct assigned courses in the content area, developing annual, unit, and lesson plans aligned with the Cristo Rey Network’s standards-based curriculum and individual student needs.
  • Set high expectations for student development and ensure all students achieve grade-level proficiency for college success.
  • Design a comprehensive program to support the academic, social, emotional, spiritual, physical, moral, and character development of every student, promoting the development of the whole person.
  • Identify and remediate subject matter where students need additional support, and provide extension activities for advanced students.
  • Develop interim benchmarks and assessments linked to course standards, and analyze results with faculty and administrators to refocus instruction.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Utilize classroom technology to engage students.
  • Serve as a moderator for student clubs/activities or coach athletic teams.
  • Serve as a chaperone/leader for field trips, immersion experiences, retreats, and Christian Service opportunities.
  • Serve as a morning, break, lunch, or afterschool prefect approximately 2 times per week.
  • Understand and appreciate the benefits of the school’s Corporate Work Study Program.
  • Develop relationships with and meet the individual needs of each student, consistent with 'cura personalis'.
  • Make referrals to school leaders and counseling teams for students struggling behaviorally or emotionally.
  • Participate in departmental and grade-level meetings to coordinate curriculum and understand student needs.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/families regarding academic progress and home-school relationships.
  • Host office hours after school to support struggling learners or offer learning extensions.
  • Maintain relationships with local non-profit and service-oriented organizations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and communicate all service opportunities to students and teachers.
  • Collaborate with students and teachers in the Religion Department to implement the school's scaffolded four-year service program.
  • Monitor student service hours through the online database (MobileServe) and communicate updates.
  • Facilitate the CRSJ “Striving For Justice” Service Fair and the Service Showcase.
  • Assist the Coordinator of Student Activities with donation drives for Thanksgiving and the Lenten Season.
  • Collaborate with the Student Life Team to offer group service opportunities.
  • Understand teaching practice as developmental and utilize resources to improve teaching.
  • Participate in the school’s professional learning community and instructional coaching.
  • Participate in the school’s Adult Faith Formation program, supporting the Catholic, Jesuit mission through spiritual and personal growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Supervisor.
