About The Position

Calvin University invites applications for a full-time faculty member to join the Religion Department in either a lecturer or assistant professor (tenure-track) position, to teach courses in biblical studies, beginning in August 2027 (pending administrative approval). As part of the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, the Department of Religion offers courses in Biblical Studies, Christian Theology, and World Religions, along with cognate subjects. Faculty teach courses fulfilling Calvin University’s general education requirements, for which most students take two Religion courses, and courses for department programs: Religion Major and Religion Minor. Requirements

  • Vibrant Christian faith, particularly as expressed in the Reformed confessions
  • Dedication to integrating faith with field of study
  • Affirm the historic Reformed confessions
  • Support Calvin University’s religious identity and educational mission as a Christian liberal arts university in the Reformed tradition, affiliated with the Christian Reformed Church in North America
  • Ph.D. in biblical studies at the time of hire
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Demonstrated awareness and commitment to effectively establishing relationships and positive communication across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to, race, gender, physical limitations, class, or religious perspectives.
