About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our team at our East Dallas, TX location! This is a Relief Veterinary Technician position with our Emergency department. As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will be responsible for inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia in patients, using anesthesia/monitoring equipment. You will also triage emergency cases, obtain vital signs, perform digital radiography, and have a complete understanding of normal patient vital signs. Additionally, you will identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR, calculate medical math, administer medications, perform phlebotomy, place intravenous catheters, and place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters. Patience and empathy are crucial for addressing client concerns.

Requirements

  • Experienced Veterinary Technician
  • Proficient at performing phlebotomy
  • Proficient at placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels
  • Ability to place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters
  • Ability to calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions)
  • Ability to administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
  • Ability to identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR
  • Ability to obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs
  • Ability to perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients
  • Complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs
  • Ability to triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure
  • Ability to induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment
  • Patience and empathy to address client concerns

Responsibilities

  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
  • Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
  • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
  • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  • Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
