About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services hires relief veterinarians to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can choose shifts through flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement. Weekday and weekend hours are available, and veterinarians set their own rate for each shift. They may continue practice activities outside of Petco shifts, with no agency fees.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports on-time departures. Trained, experienced staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement, but do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. They have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. Hospital relief shifts do not involve overnight or emergency on-call work.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Perform shift functions permitted by applicable state licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• Provide care within the services offered at the selected setting.
