About The Position

Petco is hiring a relief veterinarian to work shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend hours are available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports leaving on time, while trained staff handle clinic operations so the veterinarian can focus on patient care.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located within Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and anesthesia monitoring. Hospital shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call duties.

Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements. Relief veterinarians also receive a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals.
• Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement as appropriate to the clinic’s services.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions permitted by applicable state-specific licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.
