About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians opportunities to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, including weekday and weekend hours. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and are not charged agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports on-time departures, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco shares clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements through a monthly newsletter, and offers a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located in Petco stores, with some operating in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide full-service veterinary care, including preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts at these hospitals.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
