About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services is seeking relief veterinarians to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Veterinarians can choose shifts through flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts required. Weekday and weekend hours are available, and veterinarians set their own rate for each shift. They may continue practicing outside their Petco shifts, with no agency fees.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco also provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform blood draws and administer vaccines as required for shift functions.
• Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
