About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians work in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Their equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to choose shifts, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians may set their own rate for each shift, continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
A DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.

Responsibilities

Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
At Vaccination Clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
Perform shift functions in accordance with applicable state-specific licensing requirements, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
