About The Position

As a relief veterinarian with Petco, you can work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Flexible online scheduling lets you choose shifts that fit your lifestyle, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts. Weekday and weekend hours are available, and you set your rate for each shift. You may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports leaving on time, while trained staff handle operations so you can focus on patient care.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care, and are primarily located in Petco stores, with some operating from mobile vans. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and hospitals do not require overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
• State veterinary license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
