Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals offer preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, with equipment including digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work. Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to choose shifts, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports leaving on time, while trained staff handle clinic operations. Petco provides monthly updates about clinic news, policies, and products, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Illinois state bid rates average $131.00–$164.00 per hour. Shift rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration.
