About The Position

West River Veterinary Clinic in Hettinger, North Dakota, is seeking a Relief Veterinarian for their mixed-animal practice. It is a 100% haul-in facility for emergencies and individual animal care, providing necessary equipment, support, and backup. On-call duties are shared evenly among full-time veterinarians and supported by an assistant when possible. The practice emphasizes hands-on, relationship-driven medicine over volume-centered, impersonal care. Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
  • License to practice veterinary medicine in North Dakota (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Experience in mixed animal practice, with a significant portion in Cow/Calf and Small Animal.
  • Ability to work in a 100% haul-in facility.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call schedule.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to relationship-driven medicine and community involvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with bison herds.
  • Proficiency with hydraulic tilt-table chutes, temperature-controlled indoor cattle facilities, electric hoists, equine stocks, and portable hydraulic chutes.
  • Experience with digital radiology, ultrasound, and gas anesthesia.
  • Interest in long-term leadership development and growth within the clinic and Heritage Vet Partners network.

Responsibilities

  • Practice progressive, high-quality medicine.
