Requirements

Skilled Relief Veterinary Assistant
Ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
Ability to perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
Understanding of normal vital parameters and ability to alert doctor when abnormal.
Ability to set up intravenous fluids.
Ability to administer subcutaneous fluids.
Ability to operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
Ability to disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.

Responsibilities

Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
