Relief Therapeutic Counselor
About The Position
Total Achievement Program (TAP) is a therapeutic after-school and summer program for youth ages 6 to 12 years old. TAP staff work closely with the youths’ families, schools, and community agency providers to support each client’s success as part of a comprehensive treatment team. This position offers a flexible, per diem schedule, making it a great opportunity for students in psychology, counseling, and social work fields. The role involves helping youth develop skills in providing enriching daily activities, creating a safe and therapeutic community, working as a member of a treatment team, and supporting youth in developing a sense of self and the skills to be successful in their next steps.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Maintains valid driver’s license and appropriate driving record, as transporting youth is required.
- Background and driving record checks will be performed.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with latency age children.
- Experience in behavior modification.
Responsibilities
- Provide enriching daily activities for students such as arts and crafts, homework assistance, and recreational activities including offsite field trips.
- Create a safe and therapeutic community by working with youth to build positive peer relationships, manage behaviors in group settings, and develop effective coping strategies.
- Work as a member of a treatment team that provides group counseling, works with youth to set goals, and collaborates with youth’s support systems to develop treatment plans.
- Help youth discover what makes them feel competent and valued by supporting them in developing the social skills necessary to function at home and in the community.
- Support youth in developing a sense of self and provide them the skills to be successful in their next steps.
- Provide physical interventions and verbal de-escalations to provide the safest therapeutic atmosphere for our youth.
