About The Position

Utz Quality Foods is hiring a Relief Fryer/Peeler Operator to join its manufacturing team in Hanover, Pennsylvania. The role involves removing waste from the conveyor carrying peeled potatoes, trimming defects, and cutting oversized potatoes and spots. The operator relieves the regular fryer operator and helps prepare, operate, and sanitize the peeler/slicer and frying systems. The stated schedule is Monday through Thursday, 5:25 PM to 5:55 AM; the qualifications section also refers to a 3-day, 12-hour work schedule.

Requirements

Knowledge of production flow, operating procedures, and sanitation procedures.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Ability to maintain constant attention to potato flow and avoid slowing production.
Ability to work in a warm to hot environment.
Strong attention to detail.
Reliable transportation to the worksite.
Commitment to the stated 3-day, 12-hour work schedule.
Ability to work proactively in a cross-functional team and communicate quality, mechanical, or safety issues to the supervisor.

Some knowledge of machinery is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Inspect peeled potatoes and trim defects to control the quality of raw potatoes entering the fryer.
Operate the potato chip fryer as relief for the regular operator, including preparing for start-up and shutdown.
Perform daily and weekly sanitation procedures in the peeler or frying area.
Change and set blades.
Prepare the peeler/slicer or frying system for production start-up.
Operate the peeler/slicer system to maintain an adequate supply of properly peeled and sliced potatoes for the fryer.
Report quality or mechanical problems to the supervisor.
Work proactively with cross-functional teams and diverse groups of people.
Work safely and communicate safety issues to the supervisor.
Complete quality and food safety tasks for the position.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Maintain attention to potato flow to avoid slowing production.
Cut oversized potatoes and remove spots and waste from potatoes on the conveyor.
