About The Position

RiverFlow Dredging is seeking a Relief Master /Chief Mate with a demonstrated ability to manage ship, crew, and dredging operations efficiently. This position will be based on the RiverFlow Spirit, a trailing suction hopper dredger that will commence operations in the Fraser River in June 2026. This position is challenging, interesting and will be well suited to an individual looking to further expand their existing skill set and take part in an exciting experience within a strong and healthy work environment.

Requirements

  • Certificate of Competency
  • Minimum-Master, Near Coastal
  • Marine Medical Certificate
  • Certificate of Proficiency inSTCWBasic Safety
  • Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats
  • Certificate of Proficiency in Advance Fire Fighting
  • Certificate of Proficiency inMarine Advanced First Aid
  • Restricted Operator’s Certificate (Maritime Commercial) ROC-MC, minimum
  • Certificate of Proficiency as a Ship Security Officer
  • Eligible to be added to Pacific Pilotage Authority Coastal Waiver from Compulsory Pilotage
  • Eligible to work in Canada

Responsibilities

  • Supervising the crew, navigation, dredging process, and maintenance of the dredging equipment.
  • Supervising the daily operations on board to ensure that the equipment is used in such a manner that optimal production is achieved in compliance with safety, maritime and environmental regulations.
  • Communicating with Dredging Management, DPA, Surveyors, and local Authorities.
  • Verifying certificates appropriate to the vessel and operating area.
  • Implementing and executing company policies and the Safety Management System, when required.
  • Coordinating of crew activities
  • Checking and maintaining safety and environmental regulations on board.
  • Optimizing the production and the continuity of the vessel.
  • Maintaining ship and personnel administration (e.g. ship’s log, daily report).
  • Complying with national and international maritime law and regulations.
  • Ensuring that maintenance is carried out in an efficient and most economical manner in cooperation with the Technical Manager.
  • Taking charge of a navigation watch when Chief Mate, and as necessary when Master.
  • Ensuring that the vessel is clean and necessary maintenance is carried out.
  • Ensuring the deck equipment is properly maintained.
  • Inspecting, caring for and maintaining the lifesaving and firefighting equipment.
  • Initiating orders for deck stores, as required.
  • Inputting/updating information into electronic maintenance management system.
