About The Position

RiverFlow Dredging is seeking a Watchkeeping Mate with a demonstrated ability to manage assigned duties promptly and efficiently. This position will be based on the RiverFlow Spirit, a trailing suction hopper dredger that will commence operations in the Fraser River in June 2026. This position is challenging, interesting and will be well suited to an individual looking to further expand their existing skill set and take part in an exciting experience within a strong and healthy work environment.

Requirements

Marine Medical Certificate
Certificate of Proficiency in STCW Basic Safety
Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats
Certificate of Competency - Minimum–Watchkeeping Mate, Near Coastal
Certificate of Proficiency in Advance Fire Fighting
Certificate of Proficiency in Marine Advanced First Aid
Restricted Operator’s Certificate (Maritime Commercial) ROC-MC, minimum
Eligible to be added to Pacific Pilotage Authority Coastal Waiver from Compulsory Pilotage
Eligible to work in Canada

Responsibilities

Taking charge of a navigation watch.
Handling / maneuvering / navigating the vessel.
Supervising the dredging operations and optimizing production and the continuity of the vessel.
Verifying the vessel’s position.
Entering all pertinent details into the Bridge Log, as they occur.
Checking operation of all navigational aids: radar, depth sounder, GPS, radios.
Monitoring depth of water when approaching land or dredging.
Maintaining a good lookout for traffic or dangers.
Giving sufficient traffic warning to other vessels and checking traffic conditions in confined and/or restricted areas.
Being responsible for all elements of the dredging operation.
Monitoring the stability characteristics of the vessel during the dredging operation.
Ensuring day shapes and navigation lights are properly displayed.
